Sales Velocity

What is Sales Velocity?

Sales velocity calculates how fast your company makes money. It shows the rate at which deals move through your pipeline to become revenue.

Sales Velocity Formula

Sales Velocity = (# of Opportunities × Average Deal Value × Win Rate) ÷ Sales Cycle Length

Example: (100 opps × $5,000 × 25% win rate) ÷ 30 days = $4,167 per day

Four Levers to Improve Velocity

  1. More Opportunities: Better lead generation and qualification
  2. Larger Deal Size: Upselling, targeting larger accounts
  3. Higher Win Rate: Better qualification, sales execution
  4. Shorter Sales Cycle: Remove friction, streamline process

Why Velocity Matters

Sales velocity is a leading indicator of revenue growth, helps prioritize improvement efforts, enables accurate growth projections, measures sales team productivity, and identifies process bottlenecks.

Increasing Sales Velocity

Qualify leads more effectively (focus on best-fit prospects), improve sales enablement (equip reps with better tools), optimize deal stages (remove unnecessary steps), automate admin tasks (free up selling time), better target accounts (focus on ideal customers), and shorten decision cycles (address objections proactively).

Tracking Velocity

Monitor velocity by segment (enterprise vs SMB), by product line, by sales rep, and over time to identify trends and opportunities.
